Colchester Wado Ryu Karate is a family-run martial arts school serving Colchester and the surrounding areas.

Head instructor Sensei Darren Reynolds has been training in martial arts for over 40 years and teaching for more than 35. He currently holds a 7th Dan black belt and has a professional background in healthcare, education and therapeutic support.

What age can my child start karate?

We accept children from 4 years upwards in our Junior classes, with separate sessions for older children, teens and adults.

Does my child need to be fit already?

No. Our classes are designed to build fitness gradually. Many children start with no previous experience.

Do you offer a trial?

Yes. We recommend starting with our Kickstart Programme or an introductory trial so your child can experience the dojo, meet the instructors and see how they feel.

How often should my child train?

Most students train two times per week to make steady progress. Some choose additional sessions as they move into higher programmes.
